When it comes to weight loss and starting a new healthy lifestyle it can be very tough to motivate yourself and stay on track. Everyone needs support from family and friends, so if you know someone who’s trying to turn their lifestyle around here is how you can help them.

Support

The best thing you can do as a friend or family member is be positive and support their goals. Ask about their plans and aims and make sure they know you are there for them when they need that extra push.

Don’t tempt

If you know someone who is beginning a weight loss journey it’s best to not encourage doing things that won’t benefit their new lifestyle. If you live with someone who is trying to lose weight try to be kind and hide snacks and treats in the house, out of sight, out of mind! Try not to dangle them on a string!

Encourage other ways of celebrating

If you friend or a family member is doing well, you don’t have to celebrate by going out for food. Instead go to the cinema, go shopping, go walking or have a games night.

Don’t police

It’s great to be on board and be enthusiastic when helping your friends or family members. However, you shouldn’t start to police them and dictate what they can and can’t eat. If every so often they want a chocolate bar, allow them it. If you see it becoming a habit steer them in the right direction, but don’t make them feel guilty. This will only cause negativity.

Join in

It’s always easier to commit to a lifestyle change when you have someone to share it with. So if you live or know someone who is why not join in on the fun? That way you can motivate one another and make healthy choices together.
